Object Description
A black and white photograph of an old woman sitting in an armchair, sewing. The woman has dark hair which is in a bun. She is wearing glasses and looking down at the fabric which she is working on. Behind her, to the left, is a vase with flowers in it. To the right is a side table which is only half in view. The rest of the background is washed out.

Anna K. Keramianakis lived from October 26th 1904 til October 16th, 1984. She married Kyriakos V. Petrakis, who lived from January 1889 to January 1968.

Anna lived in Spilia, Crete. Her father sold olives in the city of Chania. Anna and her mother and sisters raised silk worms and sold the tread they spun. Anna's aunts arranged her engagement to Kyriakos. She and Kyriakos were married on July 28th, 1926. On August 15th, 1926, they left Crete for Athens. On September 2nd, 1926, they left for American on board the "Avera." On October 5th, 1926 they arrived at Ellis Island, New York.
