Object Description
Image of Ulysses P. Backas, ETM 3 Class, in US Navy black uniform.
Origin
An electronic technician, ETM Backas was first stationed at Gulfport, MI with Seabees, then to the Mojave Dessert with the Secret Weapons Tactical Training Unit.
The unit worked with a number of secret weapons and with the buzz bomb which had been dropped over Britain, to determine whether it was radio controlled. The bomb was not radio controlled, but the unit developed it to be so.
The Weapons Tactical Unit worked on the VI bomb for the purpose of dropping it on Japan. Before completion of their work, the Atom bomb was completed, tested, and dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
