Object Description
Chris N. Christopher seated upon wooden poles in foreground. Background shows rubble and destruction following atomic bomb expolsion in Hiroshima.
Origin
Donated by Aspasia Christopher (wife of Chris). Christopher N. Christopher (nee Christofis) 1926-1980. Born Allaquippa, PA July 19, 1944-August 10, 1946 Southern Philippine invasion, Mindenao Island 52nd Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division Fire Control & Instrument Operator-Forward Observer Message Center Chief- Sgt. Recalled to service during Korean Action September 1950-September 1951 OB Specialist Sgt, 309 Military Intelligense Srv. Pltn Phillipines Liberation Medal WWII Victor Medal- Bronze Star Army of Occupation Medal Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal As a civilian Chris Christopher served as a United Nations Civil Service Officer. He was instrumental in the complilation of the International Map of the World and the Standardization of Geographical Names. Till his death he served as teh Chief of the Cartography Section of the United Nations in NYC.
