Object Description
A black and white photograph of a man and a woman. It is a formal portrait. The man is on the right. He is wearing a black suit with a white button-down shirt and a black tie with a white pocket square in his pocket. He has dark hair combed neatly to the side and dark eyes.  He is also sporting a large dark mustache neatly groomed with the ends waxed upwards. The woman is on the left. She is wearing a light-colored top under a matching coatdress. A long delicate necklace with coordinating earrings frames the single cameo pin she wears on the neck of her blouse. She has dark curly hair that she's wearing pulled back and has dark eyes. An oval boarder with gradient edges creates a soft feathered frame of white around the couple.
Origin
Photographs donated by Mrs. Louos (Despo) Pavledes. This photograph is a formal portrait of Nicholas and Efstathia Hassakis, who were married in Zaverda, Greece, on October 4th, 1920.

Nick Hassakis came to America in 1909, and went to work in New Orleans. After leaving there, he went to Texas, and eventually came to St. Louis, where he sent for his brother, John, to join him. In 1912, the two brothers sent for their younger brother, Spiro.

In 1913, Nick went to fight for Greece in the Balkan war, until he was discharged in 1914. In October of 1914, the three brother's invested in the restraraunt business.

There was an article written in the Mt. Vernon Daily Register on October 25th, 1919, about Nick's departure to Greece to find a wife.
