Object Description
Formal portrait. George Brown (Kotakis) and family. Black and white photograph of a man sitting in an ornate chair with a small child in a white dress on his lap.  To the side of them, is a young boy. Behind the man stands a woman with her hand on the man's shoulder.
Origin
George Brown was one of the first Greek immigrants to arrive in Chicago. Originally from the island of Samos, he came to Chicago in 1859 by way of New Orleans. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Upon his return to Chicago, he became a barber and operated a shop in the Loop for many years.
