Object Description
Formal wedding portrait of Staviani Metromaras (of Filiatra, Greece) and George Callas (of Andritsina, Greece). The photo is in black and white. Staviani has a wedding dress on and a 3/4 length-sleeved coat that has a fur trim. She is wearing high-heeled shoes, some bracelets, and a necklace. She is holding George's hand and he is dressed in a lighter colored suit with a poka dot tie.
Origin
Attached article references that Peter Callas' fiance wore his mother's bridal shoes at her 1979 wedding as her "something old" tradition. George Callas came from Adritsina, Greece to the United States in 1918 and he worked at the Sugar Bowl from 1920-1924 when the other two guys, George Graggos and Andrew Pochos who are also from Andritsina, who owned it asked if he wanted to buy the third share. George married Staviani Metromaras and they have two children, Galine and Peter. In 1936 George told the other guys that they should move the candy store to another building and convert it into a cocktail lounge. They made the move in 1937, which was a risky time because of the depression but the buisness did well. The three men and their families grew up together and the sons went to work as soon as they could. When George and the other men decided to retire they let their sons buy the buisness from them but would not give it to them for free. In 1963 they celebrated the 50th Anniversary with all the families. George Calla died in 1987.
