Object Description
A newspaper article has been collaged onto a manila page alongside other clippings to create a book. The article is written in English and printed in black ink. The newspaper features five black-and-white landscape photographs, each accompanied by descriptive text located beneath the images. The first image, located in the top left-hand corner, depicts a riverside scene with two trees along the riverbank and a hill in the background. Under the image is text which reads, "A view of Corfu, the most beautiful of the Ionian Islands. A favorite summer resort of European royalty." The second image, situated in the upper right-hand corner, showcases two islands, each with buildings, set against a mountainous backdrop. Placed below the image is text reading as, "The Isle of the Rats," off Corfu. Said to have inspired Boecklin's famous painting, "The Isle of the Dead." The third image, found in the bottom left-hand corner, captures animals resting along the river. Beneath the image is text which reads as "Mt. Olympus and the Plains of Thessaly. The highest mountain of Greece. The seat of the Gods." The fourth image, located in the center, shows people walking across an arched bridge. Underneath the image is text that reads as "The Bridge of Arta, a haunted spot, the theme of many popular legends. Finally, the fifth image, positioned in the lower right-hand corner, features a building partially covered in plants, with people walking in the foreground. Below the image is a sentence of text that reads as "The National Library at Athens." In between the fourth and fifth image is a drawing of an oil lamp with smoking rising up.
