Object Description
An oval icon depicting Saint George slaying the dragon with a princess seen on the far right watching the battle take place. Saint George is shown riding a white horse, wearing Roman armor, a red cape, and holding a spear. The back is composed of a solid blue color with small rope allowing the icon to be hanged.
Origin
The object is owned by the Powers family and is connected to other items and photographs from the same collection. This is a travel or portable icon of Saint George. Portable icons are meant to be carried and hung in areas such as rear-view mirrors or attached to backpacks and suitcases. They are meant to ward off evil and keep the holder safe in their travels.
