Object Description
A silk scarf woven on the Greek island of Samos.
Origin
The cloth scarf was created by the donor's godmother's grandmother on the Greek island of Samos before the Second World War. The grandmother raised the silkworms, spun the thread, and wove the cloth. It was one of only a few items she was able to save from the German military when they occupied the island during the Second World War. The cloth was mailed to the donor's godmother in 1948, the first communication she had received from her grandmother since before the war.
