Object Description
The man (George Vanis) standing on left. He is wearing a black suit with a white shirt and bowtie. He has a white flower pinned to his left lapel. The woman (Anastasia Evangelo Vanis) is standing on the right side. She is wearing a white wedding gown with long white gloves, a large necklace, and a crown with a veil that spreads out along the floor. She is holding a large bouquet of flowers.
Origin
Anne Nick (Evangelos) Vanis was born on May 5, 1905 in Greece. Her father's name was Nicholas and her mother's name was Anthoula. She obtained certificate of naturalization in
1944.
George Vanis was born c.1898 in Greece. He was obtained certificate of naturalization in 1928.
Anne and George married on June 7, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio.
They had three living children: Helen Mann, Catherine Vanis, and Effie Economou, and a grandson Michael Economou. They also a son who died shortly after his birth in January of 1944 at Mercy Hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio.
George died in February of 1970.
Anne was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Huntington, W.Va. and lived in Dayton, Ohio. Anne died August 7, 1993 of congestive heart failure.
