Object Description
Hospital bill on paper. Bill reads in print and hand writing: "Portsmouth, Ohio Feb 4 1944 Mr. George Vanis for Mrs. Anna Vanis Room No Mercy Hospital Phone 241 Jan 12-Jan 14- 2 days To Hospital Room and Care from Jan 22 to Feb 4 1944 14 days 16 days at $2 @3.60 14 @ 5.00 Per day $77.00 Operating Room Fee 10.00 Anasthetic Medicines 2.80 Care of baby Nurses' Board Dressings 1.20 Visitors cot Visitors Meals Telephone Telegrams Laboratory Fee 2.00 X-Ray $93.00" A stamp appears at the bottom reading "Paid Feb 4. 1944 Mercy Hospital" with a signature at the bottom. Also included two obituaries. Top obituary on paper reads "Infant Vanis. Portsmouth- (Special)- The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. George Vanis, 1120 Eighth Street, died today in Mercy Hospital. He is survived also by three sisters, Katherine, Helen, and Effie Vanis. Burial will be Monday Morning in Greenlawn Cemetery." Bottom obituary on paper reads "Infant Vanis. A son of Mr. and Mrs. George Vanis, 1120 Eighth St, who died shortly after birth at Mercy Hospital, was buried this morning in Greenlawn Cemetery. Burial was under direction of Emrick funeral home. Surviving besides the parents are three sisters, Katherine, Helen, and Effie." Also included is a handwritten note reading "Jan. 24 1944 Born dead Brother"
