Origin
Saint Spyridon is thought to have lived towards the cloes of the 3rd century AD and began as a shepherd in Cyprus. He married and had one daughter by the name of Irene. After the death of his wife, Spyridon became bishop of Trimithus where it's said he continued his pastoral life style and lived generously. He became known as the Wonderworker, his miracles being among raising a child and his mother back to life, crossing a flood to save a condemned man, communitcating with heavenly voices, taming elements, and other such works. His body is on Corfu whiles it's said his right hand is in Rome. "The Litany of Spyridon" is celebrated on August 11 while his Feast Day is celebrated on the Saturday before Great Lent in the east and also December 12. Both eastern and western Christianities recognize his sainthood.
