Framed portrait of a female in profile dressed in traditional costume. She has a yellow head scarf with a floral pattern wrapped around her head and neck. She wears a matching mantle and apron, which both have thin bands of elaborate decoration in red, black, blue , and yellow. Over the top of the mantle and apron, she wears a long vest. The vest is white with broad borders and details in thinly striped black and white. Under the vest and apron is a white dress with intermittent vertical bands of lace decoration, which have an X pattern. The bottom has semicircular lace decoration. She wears white stockings and a plain black shoe with a short, wide heel. This is an indeterminate exterior scene with a white and gray ground and a blue and white sky. The bottom right hand corner of the print says "Eleusina" in English and Greek. The matting for the portrait is a light pink hue, with a gold frame.
This print comes from the Book "Hellenic National Costumes" by Hadzimichali, Angeliki and Nicolas Sperling. The prints were done by miniature artist Sperling. The book had multiple pressings (1948, 1954). Ultimately there were two volumes and a supplement with 111 plates total. The original unframed, unmatted prints were 8 1/2" X 11 5/8".
