This is a gathered skirt made out of white fabric, likely linen or cotton. The skirt is plain, without any embroidery or other decoration. The skirt contains a large amount of fabric, so much that it almost forms a complete circle when fully spread out. It is made up of a number of smaller sections sewn together. The skirt is gathered and slightly pleated below the waistband. The waistband contains a drawstring which ties in back to secure the skirt. The drawstring is a complete loop, rather than two ends that tie together. There are small brown spots in several places throughout the skirt and some fraying at the back seam.

This skirt was donated by Helen Adinolfi as part of a traditional Greek costume. The costume was worn by Adinolfi's mother, Fotini, at her wedding to Stylianos Dedes in January 1929 in Epirus, Greece. Traditional costumes like this are based on clothing historically worn in Greece. The costumes vary depending on the region of origin. They are generally worn for special occasions and celebrations. This skirt would have been worn as the first layer of clothing, under the two aprons.
