Origin
From Private Americana prints collection on loan by the late Dr. Andrew T. Kopan (1924-2006) and Alice O. Kopan

Text on the work included in loan papers:
The artist, Jim Daly, spent almost three years attempting to "capture" the spirit of the immigrants landing in the "great hall" registry at Ellis Island. In his words:
... This painting would be the culmination of everything I've ever wanted to say ... a feeling, emotion, and drama... a painting about people, about their hopes, their dreams, and their courage.

The text on the image, "Bring me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses" is part of the first couple stanzas from the sonnet "The New Colossus" (1883) by American poet Emma Lazarus. In the year 1903 the poem was engraved on a bronze plaque and is mounted on the lower level of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty
