Object Description
Male officers gold badge displaying spread eagle clutching laurel branch in one talon and 13 arrows in the other. At the top of the eagle is a solid round disk displaying 13 stars. There is a screw backing with nut and washers.
In 1895, the Army moved from branch insignia on the officers cap to the national eagle. The all gilt eagle, which is the coat of arms of the United States, became the official hat insignia for all officers in 1903. The glory with 13 stars is over the eagles head and the right claw offers an olive branch while the left grasps 13 arrows.
