Ice cream and its various forms (gelato, frozen custard, frozen yogurt, sorbet) have been among the favorite desserts of American and Greek culture. Ice cream is said to have been invented in the Persian empire around 400 BC when snow, saved in a yakhchal (ice house) to be kept cool until summer, would be flavored and served. This recipe evolved throughout the ages, created with different means and ingredients. Such serving bowls may be used during special gatherings to serve ice cream.
