Origin
The ritual of baptism in Christianity represents the cleansing away of evil and sin acceptance of God as father and savior. The practice of baptism though precedes Christianity into pagan religions and Christ himself was baptised in the bible. The process (in Christian religion) itself begins with the individual being baptised standing, kneeling or sitting in water or approaching an alter and either being submerged in water that has been blessed or it may be spinkled on the forehead by a presiding official. After this, the individual is said to emerge as a new person. In 450 AD the idea of "original sin" was introduced, which states that all men inherent the sin of Adam of the Genesis book of the bible and so baptism is to renounce this sin and fall into the favor of God.
