Obverse: "Kingdom of Greece" written in the greek alphabet, surrounding a square crest with a cross in the middle, topped with an elaborate crown
Reverse:"2 Lepta, 1846" surrounded by a wreath of leaves and berries
Origin
The modern nation of Greece obtained independence from Ottoman Turkey in 1833. It functioned as a monarchy from that year until 1925 and again from 1935-1974. Coins from these time periods often feature a crown a part of the design. Today the country is the Hellenic Republic of Greece.
