Greek Silver coin:
Obverse: "George King of the Greeks, 1883" in greek characters surrounding a profile bust of King George I
Reverse:"Kingdom of Greece- 2 drachmas" in greek characters surrounding a square crest with a cross in the center, a crown on top and what looks to be drapery on the sides
Origin
The modern nation of Greece obtained independence from Ottoman Turkey in 1833. It functioned as a monarchy from that year until 1925 and again from 1935-1974. Coins from these time periods often feature a crown a part of the design. Today the country is the Hellenic Republic of Greece.
