Greek silver coin:
Obverse: "George, King of the Greeks" in Greek characters, 1879 surrounding a profile bust of King George
Reverse: Greek crest surronded by what possibly says "The kingdom of Greece" (its difficult to read due to wear)
this coin has a hole in the top, put in after minting-possibly to hang on a chain.
The modern nation of Greece obtained independence from Ottoman Turkey in 1833. It functioned as a monarchy from that year until 1925 and again from 1935-1974. This coin features the bust of the ruler at the time King George I.
