Object Description
Framed painting of Jesus and the fourteen stations of the cross. The frame is a dark wood that gets lighter towards the inside edge. The painting depicts Jesus in blue and red robes carrying a cross. Encricling him are fourteen images depicting the saga of his crucifixion. Each scene progresses the narrative with an image depicting one step on his journey to the top of Calvalry. Surrounding these images is a circle of thorns, symbolizing the crown of thorns that Jesus wore on his head during the crucifixion.
Origin
Jesus is the founder of all Christian faiths and is revered as a prophet in many religions. He is considered to be the son of God by all Christian religions. This painting depicts his journey to the top of Calvalry hill, where he was crucified. He was crucified by Romans for preaching about his faith, which was not accepted at the time. Jesus is now revered and is the pillar of the Christian faith. Greek Orthodox is a Christian religion, and this painting may have appeared in a Greek Orthodox Church at some point.
