Object Description
Black and silver metal head mirror. Mirror itself is taped. Text on mirror reads "Specialty Manufacturing Company, Brooklyn, NY".

The portion that goes along the head of the physician is black, with various holes located around the area that would hit the back of the head. On the side of this black headband, there is a silver latch used for adjustment to fit the physician's head. Located on the front of the head device, is a silver, protruding mirror-piece. This piece is circular, with a smaller circular piece cut out of the center. Over this smaller cut-out hole is a piece of plastic taped over it, to one side. This tape is discolored from age.
Origin
John N. Nicholson was a practicing doctor. He donated artifacts to the museum in the 2000s.

A head mirror is a diagnostic device worn by doctors, but are used less frequently now than in the past. Physicians now largely use pen lights in order to provide the same effect that a head mirror did in the past. Typically, a degree of skill was needed in order to use a head mirror, and when used properly, could provide a highly useful shadowless beam of light.
