Object Description
Silver metal and gray rubber stethoscope with white ear pieces. Old, taped tag reads "Dr. Nicholson". Imprint on stethoscope reads "Littmann 3M Made in USA".
Origin
John N. Nicholson was a practicing doctor. He donated artifacts to the museum in the 2000s.

In the early 1960s a Harvard Medical School professor, cardiologist and recognized international authority on electrocardiography named Dr. David Littmann developed a new stethoscope with improved acoustic performance. Today, Littmann stethoscopes are still recognized for their acoustics. 3M acquired the stethoscope company on April 1, 1967, and hired Dr. Littmann as a consultant. 3M currently produces the range of Littmann brand stethoscopes.
