Object Description
Framed marriage license. The frame is a medium-colored wooden frame, that is around an inch thick. Inside the frame is an off-white piece of paper with a square-shaped perimeter design of flowers and squared off diamond clusters.

Roughly translated, the license says,

"Greek Orthodox Church
in America
Marriage Certificate

Hereby declared that by the undersigned chaplain, the marriage of ... Konstantine Theodoropoulos, Age 29, Residence Chicago, Illinois. And Erasmia P. Economou, Age 24, Residence Chicago, Illinois ... (indecipherable) ...

Holiness Harilaos Panagoloulos
Assumption Church, Chicago, Illinois
24 October, 1926"
Origin
Assumption Greek Orthodox Church was founded in 1925 and experienced tremendous growth due to existence next to streetcar line stop. By 1953 Assumption was the largest Greek Orthodox Church in the Chicago area.
