Demetrios "James" Panagakos was born in 1900 who immigrated to the United States and started a produce business with a horse and wagon in 1913. In 1917, he and his brother, Paul, established A.J. Panagakos & Co., wholesalers of potatoes and onions at 738 W. Randolph St. In 1953, Panagakos took over ownership of the Golden Gate Inn at 1235 W. Randolph St.Birthplace
