Biography

Maria Bakalis was born to Greek parents, one of them an immigrant, in Chicago’s McKinley Park. She attended DePaul University for Speech and Theatre and later completed a Master’s and Doctorate from Northeastern Illinois College. She worked as an English teacher and a communications professor.
