Biographical Note
John E. Catsulis (Katsoulakis) was a restaurateur who operated establishments in North Chicago, Chicago and Waukegan, Illinois during his lengthy career. He was born July 20, 1888 in Lastros village, Sitia, on Crete. During World War I he worked as a baker and cook at Great Lakes Naval Station. Mr. Catsulis was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church of Waukegan, IL. He was also involved with the Cretan Fraternity of Chicago and with AHEPA.  John Catsulis was the subject of Only in ‘Am-me-ri-ca’: Writing a Greek Restaurant Man’s Final Page, by novelist Harry Mark Petrakis, published by the Chicago Tribune on March 19, 1987.
